Associate Professor of the Economics Department at UFMG and Centre for Regional Development and Planning (Cedeplar). He is also an associate member of the Cambridge Centre for Economic and Public Policy (CCEPP), coordinator of the Research Group on Public Policy and Development (GPPD) and assistant Editor of Nova Economia.
He holds a Ph.D. in land economy at the University of Cambridge, M,Phil at UFMG and BA in Economics at UFMG.
His doctoral thesis won the BRICS Economic Research Award in 2016, sponsored by Exim Bank of India. He was also twice the winner of the CNI Economy Award in the categories: Financial Intermediation and Industrial Growth in 2009, and Brazilian Industry in 2015.
He has publications in the areas of economic growth, economic complexity, economic development, applied economics, international trade, structural change, productivity and innovation.
