I am\u00a0an Associate Professor\u00a0at the Department of Demography at FACE<\/a> and a Core Faculty\u00a0of\u00a0CEDEPLAR<\/a>\u00a0at the\u00a0Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais<\/a>\u00a0(Brazil)\u00a0since 2012. I\u00a0also coordinate the Cities and Urbanization Subnetwork<\/em> (along with Dr. Alisson Barbieri) at the Rede Brasileira\u00a0de Pesquisas sobre\u00a0Mudan\u00e7as Clim\u00e1ticas (Rede Clima<\/a>). Prior to my current\u00a0position at CEDEPLAR,\u00a0I worked at the Universidade Vale do Rio Doce\u00a0as an associate professor in the Department of Accounting and Management, as a core faculty in\u00a0the Graduate Program in\u00a0Territorial Studies (GIT), as an associate faculty in the Microbiology Graduate Program and as the director of the Interdisciplinary Observatory for Territorial Studies (OBIT). I hold degrees in Economics (B.S., 2003), Finance (M.B.A, 2005), and Demography (Ph.D., 2010 \u2013 Cedeplar\/UFMG; postdoctoral fellowship, 2011 \u2013 ECI\/Brown University; sabbatical, 2016 \u2013 PSC\/University of Pennsylvania).<\/p>\n

I am currently working with international collaborators (Dr. David L. Carr<\/a> – UCSB; \u00a0Dr. William Pan<\/a> – Duke University; Dr. Carlos Mena<\/a> – Universidad San Francisco de Quito; Dr. Eduardo Brondizio<\/a> – IUB) on the many ways population and environmental issues connect, especially in frontier areas. In the last years, I have devoted my research efforts to understanding\u00a0the connection between land use systems and household demography in frontier areas, environmental attitude and behavior, field and quantitative methods applied to population studies, and economic development.<\/p>\n

In collaboration with four other authors, I am\u00a0publishing the book\u00a0Grade of Membership: conceitos b\u00e1sicos e aplica\u00e7\u00e3o emp\u00edrica usando o programa GoM para Windows, Linux, Stata e R<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<\/i>(Grade of Membership: basic concepts and application using the GoM program for Windows, Linux, Stata and R. Belo Horizonte, Editora UFMG, 2017)<\/i>,\u00a0which reviews\u00a0the theoretical principals of fuzzy classification methods and provides a detailed, step-by-step, tutorial on how to use the Grade of Membership method on different environments and softwares.<\/p>\n
